Dr. Benjamin Abraham is a sustainability researcher with a passion for sustainability, particularly in digital media, technology and games. He is available for consulting, seminars and training for businesses and individuals looking to quickly skill up around their business carbon footprint and improve their monitoring and reporting and ultimately reduce or eliminate their emissions.
He is one of the world’s leading experts in the environmental impact of the digital games industry, having spent the past seven years gathering data and conducting research on the carbon footprint of the games industry, presented in his forthcoming book Digital Games After Climate Change due to be published in early 2022 by Palgrave. The book contains a world’s-first attempt to put a figure on the total global emissions of game development, estimates the scale of emissions associated game distribution and game play, and dives deep into the environmental harms that come with gaming hardware manufacturing and disposal.
He has recently begun working with game developers to identify emissions reduction opportunities (Paper House, Melb.) and has presented his research to some of the industry’s biggest players (Intel) and will be presenting on the topic at the Game Developers Conference.
He has previously worked in the School of Communication at the University of Technology, Sydney, having worked in higher education since 2011 and is branching out into the sustainability space.
